Dr. Xu Jianmin is Chief Physician & Professor, Colorectal Surgery at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai. Xu serves as Director, Department of Colorectal Surgery. Clinical expertise includes Colorectal cancer, Rectal cancer (robotic), Colorectal cancer with liver metastases, Recurrent rectal cancer. Led the REAL trial (JAMA 2025, DOI 10.1001/jama.2025.8123; NCT02817126) — 1,240-patient multicentre RCT proving robotic surgery is oncologically superior to laparoscopic for middle/low rectal cancer (3-year locoregional recurrence 1.6% vs 4.0%); results incorporated into NCCN guidelines. Visiting Scholar, Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School) & University of Massachusetts Medical Center, USA (2001).
