China Approves Two New CAR-T Therapies, Expanding Access for International Patients
Among the World Leaders
China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) has approved two new CAR-T cell therapy products, bringing the country's total number of approved CAR-T therapies to six — among the most of any country in the world. Both 2024 approvals — zevorcabtagene autoleucel (Mar 2024) and ciltacabtagene autoleucel (Aug 2024) — are indicated for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma; earlier Chinese approvals cover B-cell lymphomas and leukemia.
What This Means for International Patients
These approvals expand treatment options for international patients seeking CAR-T therapy in China. With six commercially available products, physicians can now select the optimal therapy based on each patient's specific cancer subtype and treatment history.
The cost advantage remains significant: CAR-T therapy in China is priced between $100,000 and $180,000, compared to $375,000-$475,000 in the United States.
NF MediPath's Response
Our hematology team is already integrating these new options into patient treatment planning. For patients who have been told they have no remaining treatment options, these new approvals may offer a path forward.
