Ruijin Hospital Hainan (Boao Research Hospital)

Ruijin Hospital Hainan (瑞金医院海南医院), also known as the Boao Research Hospital (博鳌研究型医院), is the Hainan branch of Shanghai Ruijin Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Built with the Hainan Provincial People's Government as the lead body, Shanghai Ruijin Hospital as the output (partner) hospital, and Hainan Provincial People's Hospital as the supporting hospital, it began trial operation on 18 December 2021 and is the first and only public medical institution in the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone. The first phase has 500 approved beds, located on Letian Road in the Lecheng zone in Qionghai City, Hainan.

In October 2022 the hospital was formally approved as a Fourth Batch National Regional Medical Center construction project. It transfers the technology, talent, management and brand of Shanghai Ruijin Hospital and concentrates on three major discipline groups: oncology and hematology, cardio-cerebrovascular and metabolism, and neuro-brain science.

As the only public hospital inside China's sole 'special medical zone,' Ruijin Hospital Hainan leverages the Lecheng zone's special-access (特许) policies to give Chinese patients early access to internationally licensed innovative drugs and medical devices that are not yet broadly approved on the mainland, and to conduct real-world clinical data research on those products. The hospital is building capabilities including a national real-world clinical data research center and a national clinical medicine innovation center.
