About the Hospital
The Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS), founded in 1958 and designated the National Cancer Center of China, is the country's first and apex specialty cancer institution — the authoritative national body for cancer policy, clinical research, and guideline development.
With approximately 1,500 inpatient beds across its Beijing main campus and Langfang branch, the hospital serves over 1 million outpatients and 76,000 inpatients annually, and has been commissioned by the National Health Commission to formulate and revise 33 tumor-specific diagnosis and treatment guidelines that set the clinical standard followed by every cancer hospital in China.
In January 2026, the hospital established China's first large-scale pan-cancer real-world genomic database, reinforcing its role as the national clearinghouse for cancer research and intelligence. The center operates one of China's first proton therapy facilities alongside an MRI-guided linear accelerator (MR-Linac) for adaptive radiation therapy, placing it at the forefront of precision oncology in Asia.

Featured Technology & Equipment
IBA Proton Therapy System (5 Rooms, Langfang Campus)

IBA Proton Therapy System (5 Rooms, Langfang Campus)
China's National Cancer Center is installing a 5-room IBA proton therapy system (equipment hoisted December 2024). Proton beams deposit maximum dose precisely at tumor depth (Bragg peak), sparing surrounding organs — especially vital for pediatric cancers, skull-base tumors, and re-irradiation cases. The premier oncology institution in China will operate one of the most advanced proton centers in Asia.
ViewRay MRIdian MR-LINAC

ViewRay MRIdian MR-LINAC
Real-time 0.35T MRI-guided radiation therapy adapts each daily treatment to tumor position and shape changes during the session — eliminating setup errors and reducing margins. Critical for pancreatic, liver, kidney, and prostate cancers where organs move with breathing. CICAMS was among the first Chinese centers to deploy this after NMPA approval in August 2022.
TomoTherapy Helical Radiation System

TomoTherapy Helical Radiation System
Helical tomotherapy delivers radiation in a continuous spiral — ideal for long target volumes (craniospinal, total marrow), multiple simultaneous lesions, and complex tumors wrapping critical structures. CICAMS operates TomoTherapy as part of its 8-LINAC fleet, among the largest radiotherapy departments in China with over 5,000 patients treated annually.
